Fall Festival with Cousins

We spent this morning with our cousins in Delaware at a fall festival in their town.
Daniel, James, Cloe and Luke decorate pumpkins

Macey getting her face painted

Down the street there is a house museum set with furniture from the 1800 and early 1900's. Behind the museum is an old local cabin where life in pioneer days was being explained. Daniel shows how children used to bring water for their mothers to do the wash.

Cloe rubs a shirt on a washboard to clean it

John tries his hand at ironing an apron
In the main house was this old piano forte with a hair wreath above it

This gentleman showed us how his family did the laundry when he was a boy, with this 1934 Maytag washing machine.

Maryland History Trip to St. Mary's

On Friday we left early in the morning to go to St. Mary's City for a homeschool day event being held there. We learned about early Maryland and American history in a hands on way.

A row of two families- the King's and Stinnett's watching a pulley demonstration on a ship (The Dove) in the river.

Amy and John roll cornmeal into balls to bake in the open fireplace at the plantation house

Upstairs a cat takes a nap in the children's beds

All Things Bright and Beautiful

All things bright and beautiful...

All creatures great and small..

Each flower that opens...
The pleasant summer sun...

The Lord God made them all

The tall trees in the greenwood..

The rushes by the water..

The ripe fruits in the garden,

He made them every one....
