Details on the Surgery

John did indeed have tethered cord. His cord was pulled so tight his nerve endings were not able to flow freely, which then caused his spinal cord fluid to be sluggish at the lower end of his spinal column. He had "occult" tethered cord, which means doctors can't see it until surgery is done. It does not show up on MRIs. This is a cutting edge surgery and a lot of debate goes around the medical community. Dr. Milhorat said to expect a growth spurt now that he has been detethered and had the decompression done.
